Vegan Eggnogs Ranked From Best to Meh

Vegan Eggnogs Ranked From Best to Meh

I grew up in a Jewish family, so eggnog was never really a thing. In fact, I didn’t discover my love of this deliciously sweet and creamy drink until I was well into my 20s. I remember going to Whole Foods the year I went vegan, on the hunt for a plant-based version as the holidays approached. At the time, Silk was the only company making a vegan eggnog (and it was pretty AMAZING) but nowadays, with the explosion of plant-based milk on the market, several companies do vegan nogs.

I went to Target, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s this week and got my hands on four different kinds and decided to sip and compare. To my surprise, they were all pretty good in their own way. Here’s what I thought, starting with my favorite.

So Delicious Coconut Milk Holiday Nog

This was by far my favorite of the bunch. It is divine—thick, creamy, and rich, with just the right amount of sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Nothing is overpowering or missing here. I was also happy that I didn’t taste any coconut flavor, just smooth, creamy heaven. And the box has a recipe for holiday French toast. OMG!

Silk Nog

This is truly the O.G. and I have to say that, more than a decade after I first discovered it, Silk does not disappoint. Soy-based, this nog is not as thick as the one from So Delicious but the flavor is excellent—lots of vanilla and caramel with pleasant hints of spice. Nicely done!

Califia Farms Holiday Nog

Califia is a newer brand and its packaging is fabulous, like a modern twist on old-school milk bottles. This nog is made with almond milk and is quite different from the first two on the list. A bit thinner than Silk’s, this nog is spicy and floral and much less sweet. If you’re looking for less vanilla and more of that nutmeg flavor, Califia is your nog. Also, you get nearly twice as much in the larger packaging.

Trader Joe’s Almond Nog

Look, no one loves Trader Joe’s more than I, but its Almond Nog is a misfire, in my opinion. It’s not bad by any means; it just doesn’t taste like nog. What we have here is a thicker, sweeter version of vanilla almond milk. I honestly didn’t taste any cinnamon or nutmeg—I mean, nada. In fact, I think that instead of drinking this as nog, I might use it as creamer for my morning coffee. That would probably be delicious!

Now before I close and wish you good tidings and cheer, I want to let everyone know that if you don’t have a store that carries vegan nog near you, do not fret. It’s super easy to make vegan nog yourself. Check out the recipe below and drink up. Happy holidays!
