Trader Joe’s is home to some of our favorite vegan products, and exciting new seasonal and limited-time products are popping up all the time. The most recent plant-based offering from the beloved vegan-friendly chain? Vegan jackfruit cakes!

The largest tree-borne fruit on the planet, jackfruit is highly regarded for its unique texture, which makes it a particularly excellent meat alternative, and its ability to take on savory flavors. So it makes perfect sense that Trader Joe’s would try its hand at vegan crab cakes made with jackfruit.

VegNews explains:

Trader Joe’s debuted new Vegan Jackfruit “crabless” Cakes nationwide this week. The crabless cakes ($3.99) are made from jackfruit, potatoes, cilantro, green onions, celery seed, and a seasoning blend which mimics the taste and texture of seafood-based cakes. The crab cakes are sold in boxes of four and can be found in the freezer section.

Trader Joe’s is no stranger to the versatility of jackfruit and has already capitalized on the fruit’s growing fanbase by offering yellow jackfruit curry with jasmine rice, a prepared vegan entree, and canned young jackfruit that’s ready to be added to your favorite recipes.

As vegan eating grows in popularity, companies like Trader Joe’s are taking advantage of the expanding plant-based food market. And these vegan crab cakes aren’t the only new product to look for on your next shopping trip. Trader Joe’s also recently launched a cocoa-peppermint almond creamer and vegan banana bread—available nationwide.
