Del Taco made headlines in September when it announced it would add vegan meat crumbles to the menu in select locations. Made by the beloved plant-based brand Beyond Meat, the savory crumbles have been available at two Del Taco locations in Los Angeles.

Del Taco offers the crumbles in two official menu items—the Beyond Avocado and the Beyond Taco—but customers can order the product in any meat-based dish, making for an incredible vegan-friendly menu!

And last week, Del Taco announced that these new menu items would be added to more stores in Southern California—21 to be exact—including restaurants in San Diego, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. John Cappasola, president and chief executive officer of Del Taco, explains:

After receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans during our pilot test in Los Angeles, it only made sense to introduce our Beyond Tacos to a larger SoCal community.

As more people find out about the horrific animal cruelty and environmental degradation inherent in meat and other animal products, they’re ditching these products in favor of healthier plant-based foods. Restaurant chains like Del Taco are taking advantage of this growing market by adding vegan options to their menus.

In fact, the demand for vegan products is rising so quickly that companies like Beyond Meat are having a hard time keeping up. In July Beyond Meat announced it would open a second production facility in Missouri to help meet the incredible demand for its products. This move will create around 250 jobs and allow the company to test out new products and expand its line.
