Del Taco Just Added Two New Beyond Meat Burritos to Its Menu
Last year, Mexican fast-food chain Del Taco became the first drive-thru restaurant in the United States to offer Beyond Meat products. Customers could choose from two delicious tacos made from Beyond Meat’s beef crumbles—the Beyond Avocado Taco, which is already vegan, and the Beyond Taco, which you can easily get vegan by skipping the cheese. Beginning with two restaurants in Los Angeles, Del Taco soon expanded the new menu offerings to its 580 locations nationwide.
After its nationwide rollout, the fast-food chain quickly sold nearly 2 million items made with Beyond Meat, making it one of Del Taco’s most successful product launches ever! Now Del Taco has launched two new menu items made with seasoned vegan crumbles: the Epic Beyond Cali Burrito and the Beyond 8 Layer Burrito.
According to VegNews, John Cappasola, president and CEO of Del Taco, stated:
The enthusiasm shown by our fans during the first weeks of our Beyond Meat offerings was undeniable. To that end, we wanted to reward the passion being shown across social media and in our restaurants by utilizing our uniquely seasoned Beyond Meat recipe in two new protein-packed burritos.
The Epic Beyond Cali Burrito is made with Beyond Meat crumbles, crinkle-cut fries, guacamole, pico de gallo salsa, and sour cream. You can easily get it vegan by saying no to the sour cream. Inside the Beyond 8 Layer Burrito, diners will find the same savory vegan crumbles, along with beans, guacamole, diced tomatoes, lettuce, red sauce, sour cream, and cheese. Skip the sour cream and cheese for a completely plant-based burrito! Both burritos are made with warm flour tortillas.
As plant-based eating grows in popularity, more fast-food companies are adding new vegan menu items to reach a broader market. Like Del Taco, several other chains have added vegan meat to the menu. Carl’s Jr. created the Beyond Famous Star burger, and Qdoba brought vegan ground beef from Impossible Foods to all locations. In March, even Red Robin announced plans to launch the Impossible Burger at 570 locations throughout the United States!
