Wow! This 24-Hour Vegan Drive-Thru Is Opening 10 New Locations
In 2016, Globally Local made headlines when it sold out of its famed “Famous Burger” at the meat-heavy Ontario Ribfest! And since then, the company has continued to grow and expand, opening the world’s first-ever 24-hour vegan drive-thru last year.
Known for its plant-based takes on iconic fast-food items, this Canadian chain replaces the cruel animal-based foods in the classic burger with delicious vegan ones. In addition to the Famous Burger, the drive-thru menu includes the Vegan Vopper (a spin on Burger King’s Whopper) and a Crispy Chikun sandwich made from seitan.
Now Globally Local is expanding, with 10 new locations in the works! James McInnes—Globally Local’s founder—tells VegNews about the company’s plans to franchise:
We have greatly simplified the restaurant operation to the point where we feel that even those with little or no restaurant experience can easily operate a Globally Local franchise. We want to be a global contender in the fast-food world and we believe that by finding strong franchise partners, we can make this dream a reality.
But Globally Local isn’t the only one working to bring cruelty-free fast food to the masses. Just last year, Plant Power Fast Food in Encinitas, California, transformed a former Burger King restaurant into a fully plant-based one! Offerings include cholesterol-free, meat-free, and dairy-free versions of burgers, nuggets, mini corn dogs, and shakes.
