World’s Largest Hot Dog Chain Adds Plant-Based Field Roast Hot Dog
This month, Wienerschnitzel—the world’s largest hot dog chain—added vegan Field Roast hot dogs to its menu. The Field Roast Signature Stadium Dog is currently available at select locations in California, Texas, and New Mexico while supplies last.
The new Field Roast vegan hot dog is made from pea, rice, and fava bean protein and is double smoked using maple wood chips. Dan Curtin, president of Field Roast parent company Greenleaf Foods, stated:
This isn’t just another hot dog—a lot went into creating a truly unique product. The new Field Roast Signature Stadium Dog was inspired by the flavors of premium, kosher-style beef hot dogs, and unlike other products that use liquid smoke for flavor, our dogs are smoked in a real smokehouse. Wienerschnitzel is the perfect partner to debut our Plant-Based Dog because, simply put, they know hot dogs.
Wienerschnitzel is serving the hot dog in three exciting options: Backyard Veggie Dog, Barbeque Veggie Dog, and Chicago Veggie Dog. The Backyard Veggie Dog can easily be veganized by ordering it without cheese, while the others are already vegan.
Should the hot dogs perform well, they could appear on the menus at all of Wienerschnitzel’s over 300 locations. Wienerschnitzel chief marketing officer Doug Koegeboehn said:
We are excited about the quality of this plant-based hot dog. If these plant-based offerings perform well in our test markets, it’s something that we would be excited to offer to our customers chain-wide later this year.
While the Signature Stadium Dog is only available at Wienerschnitzel for now, Field Roast says customers will find it in grocery stores this April.
