Impossible Whopper Comes to California, Now Available at 100 Bay Area Burger Kings

This April, Burger King made headlines when it launched the Impossible Whopper at St. Louis-area locations. A plant-based take on BK’s most popular burger, the offering features a meatless patty from Impossible Foods and has been met with much fanfare.

In fact, a recent report from inMarket inSights suggests that in the first month after its release, the Impossible Whopper increased foot traffic at these locations by an average of almost 17 percent! This new plant-based patty has since launched at Burger King locations around the country, including in Miami, Florida; Columbus, Georgia; and Montgomery, Alabama.

Now new locations in the Bay Area have been announced! The San Francisco Chronicle reports:

Monday brought deliveries of the plant-based burgers, made by Impossible Foods in Oakland, to 111 locations around the region, including San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose. The new Impossible burgers are billed on the menu as “All WHOPPER. No beef.” and cost $6.19 pre-tax, a bit higher than the original beef version ($4.89). Both burgers come topped with tomatoes, lettuce, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun.

This expansion significantly increases the number of Burger King locations offering the Impossible Whopper—from around 200 to over 300. The chain plans to offer the new burger at all 7,200 U.S. locations by the end of this year.

As plant-based eating grows in popularity, more fast-food companies are adding new menu items to reach a broader market. Like Burger King, several other chains have added vegan meat from Impossible Foods to the menu.

Earlier this year, Qdoba, a fast-casual chain known for its Mexican-inspired menu, said it would bring vegan ground meat from Impossible Foods to all locations. In March, Red Robin announced plans to launch the Impossible Burger at 570 locations throughout the U.S.
