In December, eaters at a San Francisco grilled cheese pop-up were stunned to learn that the sandwiches they were enjoying had been made with vegan cheese! The stunt was set up by plant-based company Miyoko’s Creamery as a way to introduce its new line of nut-free, dairy-free cheese. Made from oats, potatoes, and legumes, the new cheese is set to debut in April and will come in blocks, shreds, and slices.

While most of us weren’t lucky enough to be at that San Francisco pop-up, hungry Miyoko’s fans may soon have a chance to try the new cheese—for free! On March 4, the company will launch a grilled cheese food truck on a journey across the United States. The truck will hand out complimentary grilled cheese sandwiches made with nut-free vegan cheddar and pepper jack.

Miyoko’s food truck will give away around 15,000 grilled cheese sandwiches, beginning its tour in California at the Natural Products Expo West and making stops in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, and Washington, DC, among others. Miyoko Schinner, CEO of Miyoko’s Creamery, told VegNews:

We believe our new cheddar and pepper jack are game-changing and will do for cheese what Beyond and Impossible did for burgers by expanding the audience for vegan cheese to omnivores and flexitarians. What better way to prove that than by allowing people to taste the product first-hand—our Grilled Cheese Nation food truck tour is a fun way to get that done while building excitement and anticipation for our April product launch.

Miyoko’s Creamery has truly been taking the world by storm. Just this month, Northern California chain Pizza My Heart became the first restaurant to offer Miyoko’s new Cultured Vegan Pizza Mozz. Customers can choose between the organic cashew-milk version and the allergen-free version, which uses oat milk and legumes. Pizza My Heart CEO Spencer Glenn stated:

With Miyoko’s Cultured Vegan Pizza Mozz, we truly believe everyone, including our customers who are omnivores, have lactose intolerance, or other dietary issues, don’t need to sacrifice taste and texture to enjoy our delicious pies and slices.

With so many mouthwatering vegan options—like Miyoko’s cheeses, butter, and spreads—there’s no reason not to add more plant-based foods to your daily routine. Get tips with our FREE Vegetarian Starter Guide, and check out our Pinterest page for thousands of recipes!
