As its customers shift toward healthier, high-quality diets, United Airlines is “focusing heavily” on plant-based options! The company will expand its vegan options in 2020, and travelers can expect to see savory new choices like red beet hummus with roasted vegetables, roasted curry cauliflower with whipped hummus and pomegranate, and stuffed grape leaf with dolma-infused dairy-free yogurt.

United Airlines is not alone. Earlier this year, major British airline Jet2 added two completely plant-based dishes to its menu. The all-day vegan breakfast features veggie sausage, potatoes, and sautéed mushrooms in tomato sauce, and the vegan Moroccan vegetable tagine is served with couscous. Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2 and Jet2holidays, said in a statement:

Customer feedback shows that there is strong demand for vegan options, so we are delighted to be introducing these two delicious meals, giving customers more choice on our award-winning airline.

Adding to the plant-based frenzy is Norwegian Airlines and Emirates Airlines, both of which reported spikes in vegan meal orders for January 2019. Norwegian offers tasty choices like a gnocchi dish and chickpea stew, while the Emirates catering factory boasts more than 170 vegan recipes, including vegan mushroom ravioli, lentil and spinach ragout, chocolate cake, and key lime parfait.

Vegan dining at 40,000 feet isn’t all that’s become more popular. Major airports around the globe have also started offering plant-based fare. In fact, Los Angeles International Airport features a vegan restaurant in one of its terminals, and San Francisco International Airport hosts an outpost of Amy’s Drive Thru, an all-vegetarian drive-thru restaurant!
