Lately, more and more fast-food chains have been experimenting with plant-based meats and adding more vegan menu items. Most recently, McDonald’s launched its first vegan Happy Meal at stores across the U.K.

McDonald’s is widely regarded as one of the least vegan-friendly fast-food chains, so this incredible new option is a true sign of the times, and it will make life easier for the millions of families moving away from meat and other animal products.

VegNews reports:

The new meal features a wrap filled with shredded lettuce, ketchup, and meatless chicken fingers—made from yellow split peas, breadcrumbs, Arborio rice, dairy-free sundried tomato pesto, and red peppers. To make the Happy Meal entirely vegan, customers can choose carrot sticks or a pineapple stick as a side option, and water or juice as a drink option.

McDonald’s added a similar offering for adults—the Spicy Veggie Wrap—which also features meatless chicken made with yellow split peas and rice.

As more people find out about the animal cruelty and environmental degradation inherent in animal agriculture, they’re ditching meat and other animal products in favor of healthful plant-based alternatives.

McDonald’s is taking advantage of this growing market by joining other major restaurant chains adding plant-based options to their menus. Just last week, Carl’s Jr. became the latest chain to offer the acclaimed Beyond Burger at all 1,000 locations in the U.S.

And in December, Del Taco, another U.S. chain, announced it would add Beyond Meat crumbles to its menu at 21 locations in Southern California, including restaurants in San Diego, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.
