Explain Like I’m Five: What Do Vegans Eat?
Maybe it’s something you’ve asked yourself, or just something that your friends and family won’t stop asking: What do vegans eat?
Well, the short answer is everything.
Vegetarians and vegans can enjoy all of the same tastes and textures without supporting factory-farmed cruelty by using plant-based versions of their favorite foods.
Fruits and Veggies
Surprise, surprise! The foundation of any healthy diet should be fruits and veggies, and lots of ’em! From delicious salads to flavorful smoothies, produce can be the best friend you’ve ever had.
Beans and Lentils
Pop open a can and stuff them in a taco, mix them with seasoned rice, or drop them into a pot of soup. Beans and lentils can do it all!
Grains
Rice, wheat, barley, quinoa, pasta… The list goes on and on.
Grains are super filling, loaded with nutrients, and easy to prepare!
Nuts and Seeds
Peanut butter is always a great go-to snack, and nuts can do even more. Adding walnuts, almonds, cashews, or other nuts to your breakfast cereal, salads, and stir-fries is an easy way to add a protein-packed crunch. Or, just eat them right out of the jar.
Plant Meats and Dairy

There is a wide variety of delicious plant-based meats and nondairy products to choose from. From veggie chicken nuggets to delicious coconut-based ice cream, you really can have it all.
Every time we sit down to eat, we can make a choice to promote kindness over needless cruelty.
