North Dallas just got a brand-new plant-based restaurant, thanks to husband-and-wife team Nuno and Vezna Arias. Nuno’s Tacos & VegMex Grill serves delicious Mexican comfort food, like tacos, burritos, nachos, and quesadillas.

Nuno’s family owns another vegan restaurant, El Palote Panadería, which serves acclaimed plant-based versions of traditional Mexican dishes in the Dallas area. Nuno left his career in finance to return to the restaurant business, sharing his family’s love for plant-based food. He says, “We helped start El Palote with my parents, my dad is very passionate about veganism, and cooking has always been a passion for my family.”

Last year Nuno and Vezna began hosting pop-ups on their own at various locations around Dallas, such as the Dallas Farmers Market. With traditional Mexican stews and signature dishes like the Tejano BBQ wrap, the couple has built a loyal following. They were also the only vegan vendor at the 2019 Taco Libre, an annual Texas taco festival, where they were very well-received.

Their pop-ups were such a hit that the couple decided to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant, looking specifically in the northern part of Dallas. Nuno explains: “North Dallas doesn’t have a lot of vegan options. Our pop-ups always draw a lot of people from Plano, McKinney, Richardson, and North Dallas, and we decided that was where we needed to be.”

If you’re not in the Dallas area, you can find incredible vegan Latin American restaurants in other cities, such as El Veganito in San Diego, VSPOT in New York, and Todo Verde in Los Angeles.
