Buckle up, California! On Thursday, KFC announced it would serve its plant-based Beyond Fried Chicken at over 50 locations in Southern California. Starting on July 20, residents of Greater Los Angeles, San Diego, and Orange County can expect to find six- or 12-piece packs at local KFC restaurants while supplies last.

This move comes after several hugely successful tests of Beyond Fried Chicken in other parts of the United States. KFC U.S. chief marketing officer Andrea Zahumensky said in a press release:

We know the East Coast loved it, so we thought we’d give those on the West Coast a chance to tell us what they think in an exclusive sneak peek.

KFC first tested Beyond Fried Chicken in August 2019, for one day at one location in Atlanta. Combined with KFC’s signature secret spices, the Beyond Meat vegan chicken made KFC the first American fast-food chain to add a Beyond Meat chicken item to its menu.

Scores of customers lined up around the block—from vegans to flexitarians to the simply curious—hoping to taste the exciting new product. In fact, the trial was such a success that the plant-based chicken sold out in just five hours and received rave reviews.

Earlier this year, KFC tested an updated version of the Beyond Fried Chicken at 66 locations in Charlotte, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; and Kentucky. Beyond Meat founder Ethan Brown told Yahoo Finance, “There is nothing else on the market like it.”

Now the plant-based chicken is coming to California! Brown said in a press release:

We are thrilled to continue our partnership with KFC and bring Beyond Fried Chicken to Southern California. KFC is a true category leader and we are proud to be their partner of choice as they make delicious plant-based chicken more accessible to consumers.

Those eager to try KFC’s Beyond Fried Chicken should check out the KFC restaurant finder and look for a restaurant with the Beyond logo next to it.
