Just Launched: New Earth Month Report Highlights How Plant-Forward Menus Are Good for the Planet
|
This Earth Month we face increasingly dire circumstances after breaking a new unfortunate record: 2024 was the hottest year in history. It’s time to bring the heat to companies that are failing to take responsible action to combat climate change with more sustainable, plant-forward menus. And that’s exactly what we are doing in our 2025 Earth Month report.
The report aims to:
- Bring attention to the role of our food system, specifically industrial animal agriculture, in climate change
- Highlight companies that are promoting and enhancing their plant-based food offerings and identify areas for growth and improvement
- Raise awareness about companies that are failing to make progress toward their professed climate goals

Food companies, through their purchasing decisions, hold tremendous power to create positive change or drive climbing temperatures and create more pollution, carbon and methane, and food waste. Consumer awareness is an important step toward influencing companies to offer Earth-friendly, plant-forward food options and holding them accountable for their role in the ongoing climate crisis.
Take coffee shops. Though upcharging for dairy-free milk was once a standard practice across the coffee industry, many of the largest U.S. chains have made a recent shift toward a more sustainable new normal, where plant milk instead of cows’ milk comes at no extra charge! This widespread menu shift is an Earth-friendly one.
Here’s how one glass of cows’ milk compares to one glass of plant milk:
- Generates three times the greenhouse gas emissions
- Uses nine times more land
- Consumes 50%–90% more water
This Earth Month, please join us in asking coffee shops to drop the upcharge on plant milks, and check out our new report!
