Without a doubt, having watched a documentary about animal rights or veganism is one of the top reasons people move toward a vegan diet. Watching one of these is a great way to learn about the lives of billions of animals subjected to horrific treatment at farms, the far-reaching impact animal agriculture has on climate change, and how animal products adversely affect our health.

Dominion
In July, the highly anticipated Australian animal rights documentary Dominion launched for online viewing worldwide! The film is co-produced by Shaun Monson, who is well-known for creating Earthlings, the comprehensive 2005 documentary that explores our relationship with nonhuman animals, including those used in food production.

Hurricane Heroes
The powerful new documentary short Hurricane Heroes offers a glimpse into the lives of farmed animals who are left behind when natural disaster strikes and the brave rescuers who give their all to save them.
In September, Hurricane Florence hit the Carolinas, causing massive floods and widespread destruction. The Mercy For Animals video team went to North Carolina to document the aftermath and speak with Jay Yontz and Kristin Hartness—the founders of Ziggy’s Refuge animal sanctuary—who went to great lengths to rescue animals suffering in the storm’s wake.

Cowspiracy
While this award-winning documentary was released in 2014, given the current climate crisis, its message is more important than ever. Cowspiracy explains how our animal-based diets contribute to everything from climate change and species extinction to land and water wastage. The End of Meat, produced in Germany by filmmaker Marc Pierschel, highlights the hidden impact of our meat-heavy diets and the growing movement to bring about a world where we don’t exploit and kill animals for food. Pierschel meets Esther the Wonder Pig, visits the first vegetarian city in India, and observes the innovators making meat and dairy products without animals.
