Veganism is taking the United Kingdom by storm in 2018, with a slew of new vegan offerings and restaurants that have ditched animal products for good. In fact, Blacksmith and Toffeemaker, a newly vegan pub in London, has tripled its sales since switching to a plant-based menu!

Motivated by food waste, sustainability, and animal welfare, owner Sam Pryor told Metro:

No matter how smart you are with ordering, there is always waste where meat and dairy products are involved. This aspect isn’t really seen by the customer but most people in the trade would acknowledge that it is a big issue.

New menu offerings include green mac and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, mozzarella sticks, Nashville hot chicken burgers, and halloumi burgers—all 100 percent vegan.

But this new pub is far from the only indication that veganism is taking over London. Just this month, another all-vegan pub, The Spread Eagle, opened its doors, boasting an expansive selection of ales brewed without using any animal products and an equally impressive plant-based food menu. And last year, Temple of Seitan made headlines as the city’s first vegan fried chicken shop—and it’s had lines out the door since.

As more people discover the vast cruelty inherent in animal agriculture, the popularity of vegan food will only continue to grow. According to LiveKindly, more than 100,000 people have pledged to go vegan this month for Veganuary. The campaign reports that one person every six seconds vows to ditch meat, dairy, and eggs. There’s truly never been a better time to reject cruel and unnecessary animal products.
